Hi, it’s me, Alycia! The face behind GoldenBirchMama!
I can honestly say I never thought I would be here; sitting on my couch while my son sleeps writing my first blog post!
Once I graduated college, which was weeks before I got married, I never thought I would have to bring up a word document and get to writing again! So yep, you guessed it, my J-O-B is full time mama.
I went from a part time job as an Antique dealer and Wedding stylist to my forever job as a mama to my little guy.
Nope, not a typo, you read that right, Antique dealer and Wedding stylist. Random combo, right?
Well to make a long story short I will always and forever be a part time Antique dealer, it’s in my blood, third generation. The whole wedding stylist thing, well that all came about when I styled my entire wedding myself (down to every last little detail) and it landed on Style Me Pretty as well as a number other publications in print and online. I knew I loved to decorate and weddings, well who doesn’t love a good weeding? So I went out on a limb and dreamt up Timeless Love Events. My Mom and I used our antique background, love for pretty things and attention to small detail to start our very own Wedding Stylist and rental business.
It was so much fun and we styled a TON of weddings, but then I found out Maxwell was on the way. I literally missed a wedding because I went into labor two weeks early (don’t worry Mom got the job done) and it was pretty much c’est la vie to the company as soon as I met that little man!
It took about three months and missing his first roll over to say “I am done, no thank you”! So we dissolved the business! I was always the little girl that wanted to play “babies”! Ask my closest friends and cousins and they will tell you I had my baby dolls till middle school…okay lets be real it was more like high school! I was obsessed! No, not like creepy obsessed, but I think since a very young age I knew my J-O-B would ultimately be mama and that dream was calling my name.
Lets get back on track.
So here I was three years married, with a one year old and a dog and the next step was to buy our first home. This was no home in the beginning and fixer-upper was an understatement. This place was a down right disgusting dump that needed to be burnt down to the ground! Okay, okay I am probably being a little bit on the dramatic side, but it was pretty freaking horrible!
After purchasing it we stayed in our rental for another three months and then we all moved into my parents (which is right next door, the big selling point to the huge lump of turds) for another two months. When we finally moved in it was nowhere near finished, I am talking barely livable.
No big deal I got this! I am designing and re-building a house (who even am I?) We ate off paper plates for months, slept on a mattress in the living room and didn’t even step foot in the master bedroom until a year after the day we got the keys (closets and bathrooms came even later).
I am here to tell you it was the best decision we have ever made and one of our greatest adventures yet!
Through the buying and the reconstruction of this house I was able to discover my second true passion in life, DESIGN.
A place where I can showcase my passion for making a house a home. Where I can specialize in antiques, vintage, DIY, bargain shopping, and everything in between to feed my soul as an interior stylist. I get to knock down walls, paint and tile to build the foundation of the perfect space. I get to carefully curate pieces, old and new, to create mixed color and textures that bring my ever changing vision to life.
I was able to bring out my creative side in the best way possible and I couldn’t get enough.
October of that year I had enough push from friends and family to start an Instagram to showcase my interior design skills.
I had no clue what I was getting into, what I was doing, or where it would take me and I am sure glad I took that leap of faith!
There was a whole lot of trial and error and posts that would fall flat on their face, but I never gave up! I can say that the community on Instagram is what kept me going during my first year on social media. The friends I’ve made and the groups I’ve gotten involved with are and were so amazing and truly don’t know where I’d be without them.
So here we are at exactly one year and six months later. I’m venturing into the world of blogging with goldenbirchmama.com and here goes nothing!
